Tragic Loss: Cedric Babu, Son of Francis Babu, Dies After Heart Battle

Sad updates have emerged indicating that Cedric Babu, the son of well-known politician and scholar Captain Francis Babu, has passed away. Posts circulating on social media reveal that Cedric lost his battle with heart failure in Nairobi, Kenya.

It should be recalled that Cedric had been brought to Kenya from Rwanda after collapsing due to heart issues. He was there to support his son Cillian Ndilima Asante during a tennis tournament. At just 48 years old, his only hope for survival relied on an urgent heart transplant that could only take place overseas.

Despite coming from one of Uganda’s most notable families, his relatives have been struggling to gather Shs 1.5 billion for the operation to proceed. A GoFundMe campaign was initiated to raise both funds and awareness. Prominent political figures and celebrities began rallying support for this cause, encouraging others to contribute.

However, Cedric’s situation has once again cast a spotlight on the declining sense of humanity among Ugandans, which many attribute to political issues. Numerous social media users have reacted to his misfortune with indifference, suggesting that the family should seek assistance from the government they have historically supported.

It appears he was a father of three and a close associate of the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as well as the Vice Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) in Kampala. Additionally, he had a passion for sports, leading K-Tic Sports, a company focused on sports management, advisory, and event implementation. He was also an avid tennis player and formerly captained the Uganda team at the Davis Cup. Originally from Kenya, he was the third of seven siblings and completed his early education in London.

Cedric Babu, a previous Davis Cup competitor and President of the Uganda Tennis Association, is recognized not only for his contributions to sports in Uganda but also for his impact in media and politics.

He previously hosted the popular “Cedric Live Show” on UBC and participated in several prominent productions, including the well-regarded local drama Beneath the Lies. In 2021, he ran for the Kampala Central parliamentary position under the NRM party.

He comes from an esteemed family—his father, Francis Babu, served as a minister, while his mother, Olive Zaitun Kigongo, is a distinguished entrepreneur and the CEO of the Uganda National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UNCCI).

Emotional tributes have started to come in for Cedric Babu, and may he rest in eternal peace while his family finds comfort and strength in the knowledge that he is in a better place.
