Kasese, Uganda – May 14, 2025
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has launched the Rwenzori Presidential Skilling Hub in Kasese District, a strategic move aimed at equipping young people with hands-on skills to drive Uganda’s economic transformation.
The hub, which will focus on vocational training in fields such as motor mechanics, plumbing, and electrical installation, is expected to accommodate at least 500 learners. Plans are underway to expand the facility with additional dormitories and training infrastructure.
Addressing a public rally in Kasese Municipality after commissioning the skilling centre, President Museveni said the initiative aligns with the NRM government’s broader goal of lifting people out of poverty.
“The NRM’s goal is Okukyenuura—to lift people out of poverty,” Museveni stated. “While the Parish Development Model (PDM) supports families economically, these hubs focus on knowledge acquisition. Skills empower our youth to create wealth.”
Earlier in the day, the President commissioned road infrastructure projects worth Shs53 billion, constructed under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development (USMID) program. He emphasized that the NRM government is committed to delivering tangible development.
“These developments demonstrate that the NRM government is not about empty promises. We do what we say and say what we mean,” Museveni said.
Commenting on national development priorities, Museveni stressed the importance of strategic planning. “Our problem has never been ideas. It is the lack of prioritisation. The Bible says, ‘Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all other things shall be added unto you.’ You want to do everything at once, but that’s not how transformation works. The NRM has always followed a clear sequence: we start with what matters most.”
During his tour of the Rwenzori sub-region, the President also assessed the progress of the Parish Development Model. He urged citizens to take ownership of the PDM funds and ensure proper utilization at the grassroots.
“This money belongs to you and should be closely monitored to ensure that it truly transforms your lives,” he told residents. “The government will continue to put more money into the PDM program each year to support economic transformation at the parish level.”
President Museveni will continue his regional tour tomorrow in the Tooro sub-region as part of his ongoing efforts to inspect and strengthen community-driven development programs.
