Mbale Heroes Football Club has suspended head coach Asaph Mwebaze for 28 days, citing allegations of professional misconduct and unethical behavior.
The suspension follows reports of Mwebaze engaging in verbal altercations with fans and making inappropriate gestures during and after a recent match against Vipers FC at Mbale Stadium. Additionally, he is accused of criticizing the club’s leadership and supporters on social media platforms, particularly on X (formerly Twitter).
Club chairman Andrew Wambi stated that these actions have tarnished the club’s reputation and created conflicts between the organization and its supporters. During the suspension, Mwebaze will receive half of his salary. The club emphasized its mission to be the most successful community club in Africa, both on and off the field.
Following the club’s official communication regarding the development on social media, Mwebaze’s response did not fail to match expectations.
This incident is not the first time Mwebaze has parted ways with Mbale Heroes. In April 2024, he resigned from his position alongside his entire technical staff, citing disagreements with management over non-payment and conflicts with fans. He was later reappointed as head coach but has now been suspended again following the recent altercation.
The club has indicated that further investigations will be conducted during the suspension period to determine the appropriate course of action. As the situation develops, the club’s management and supporters await the outcome of these investigations to decide on the future of the coaching position.
