MUK phases out 18 Undergraduate Programmes

Makerere University Kampala has confirmed the exclusion of eighteen Undergraduate Programmes on their curriculum starting with the academic year, 2021/22.

The arrangement was approved by the University Council in their pursuit to restructure undergraduate programmmes.

It should be remembered that last year in August the council approved restructuring of 20 undergraduate programmmes aimed at reducing 82 courses the University is holding to 62.

According to the director of quality Assurance Dr. Vicent Ssembatya, the aim of scrapping off some of the programme was to enhance quality at the University and spear head research since the University wants to increase the percentage of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

We are surely going to be research led, and focus more on graduate training. Our curriculum will face more of science and technology to about 40%” Said Dr. Ssembatya in August 2020.

In the letter received by faculty principals on 29th. March. 2021, the University says over 18 restructured courses will not be advertised starting this August intake.

Among those Programmes include; Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, Bachelor of Science in  Telecommunication engineering, Bachelor of Archive and Records Management, Construction Management, to mention…
