Mbappe Breaks Messi UCL Record

Kylian Mbappe broke a record set by Lionel Messi on Wednesday night after going almost a year without scoring in the UEFA Champions League.

The Paris Saint-Germain superstar netted a brace in his side’s 5-1 thumping of Istanbul Basaksehir, which saw PSG go top of Group H.

Mbappe’s goals were his first in the competition this year, with his previous UCL goal coming on 11 December 2019.

The brace also saw the Frenchman become the youngest-ever player to reach 20 goals in Europe’s elite club tournament, breaking the previous record held by Messi.

Mbappe netted his two goals against Basaksehir, which came a day after the game was abandoned with both sets of players walking off the pitch following an alleged incident of racism, at the age of 21 years and 355 days, while Messi was 22 years and 266 days old when he reached the milestone.

Meanwhile, the Champions League’s all-time record goalscorer Ronaldo was 24 years and 308 days when he reached 20 strikes in the competition.
