The Premier League produced a dramatic weekend of action as Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the 2026/27 campaign, while defending champions Arsenal suffered a heavy defeat to Brighton.
City defeated Sunderland 5-3 at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday to make it five wins from five league matches. Antoine Semenyo scored twice, while Erling Haaland also found the net as City maintained their 100% record. Sunderland’s Brian Brobbey scored a hat-trick in a high-scoring encounter.
Liverpool also secured an important away victory, beating Bournemouth 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium. Alexander Isak scored the only goal in the 58th minute to give Liverpool three points and extend their unbeaten start.
Arsenal suffer Brighton defeat
Defending champions Arsenal endured a difficult afternoon at the Amex Stadium, losing 3-0 to Brighton on Saturday.
Pascal Gross, Charalampos Kostoulas and Chema Andrés were on target as Brighton recorded a convincing victory. The result moved Brighton into third place, while Arsenal lost ground at the top of the table.
The defeat came a week after Arsenal had beaten Chelsea 2-1.
Aston Villa edge Tottenham
Aston Villa defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 in north London, extending Tottenham’s difficult opening to the season.
Villa took all three points in a match that added to the pressure on Spurs, who remained at the bottom of the Premier League table after five matches.
Coventry record historic win
Coventry City secured their first Premier League victory in 25 years with a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
Jay Dasilva scored the decisive goal in the 55th minute. Forest had a late equaliser ruled out following a VAR review, allowing Coventry to hold on for a landmark victory.

At the other end, Tottenham’s defeat leaves them at the bottom after five matches, while Bournemouth remain without a league victory following their loss to Liverpool.
