NUP Demands Answers After Ninye Tabz is Reportedly Taken by Unidentified Operatives in Kampala

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has called on authorities to account for one of its supporters, Ninye Tabz, who was reportedly taken away by unidentified men in Kampala’s Kamwokya suburb on Wednesday.

According to information shared by party supporters and activists, Ninye Tabz was allegedly seized by armed individuals travelling in an unmarked Toyota Hiace van, commonly referred to by opposition supporters as a “drone.”

The reported incident has reignited concerns among opposition groups over the safety of political activists and the conduct of security operations in the country.

By Wednesday evening, NUP leaders said they had not established the whereabouts of the supporter and urged security agencies to provide clarity regarding his status.

Several party members and supporters took to social media platforms demanding information about the alleged arrest and calling for his release if he is in state custody.

The opposition party argued that incidents involving unmarked vehicles and undisclosed detention locations continue to generate anxiety among politically active citizens and raise questions about transparency in law enforcement operations.

The issue of so-called “drone” operations gained national attention during the period leading up to Uganda’s 2021 general elections, when opposition supporters and activists reported cases of disappearances and detentions. Some individuals later resurfaced in official detention facilities, while others were arraigned before courts.

Human rights organizations have consistently called for greater accountability and adherence to due process during security operations, emphasizing the need for authorities to promptly disclose the whereabouts of arrested persons and ensure access to legal representation.

Security agencies have previously maintained that arrests conducted during operations are carried out within the confines of the law and have denied involvement in unlawful abductions.

As concerns continued to mount on Wednesday night, NUP officials renewed their call for authorities to publicly disclose the whereabouts of Ninye Tabz and, if he has been arrested, ensure that he is either released or presented before a competent court in accordance with the law.

The matter remained unresolved by press time, with no official statement issued regarding the reported incident.
