Absa Bank Expands Card Portfolio with Launch three Visa Cards

Absa Bank Uganda has expanded its card portfolio with the introduction of three exclusive Visa card solutions—Infinite, Signature, and Business Credit Cards—designed to cater to the growing needs of high-net-worth individuals and businesses.

The newly launched Visa Infinite Card is Uganda’s first smart, metallic debit or credit card, offering an elite banking experience with premium financial and lifestyle benefits. The Visa Signature Card targets top-tier customers who value sophistication, while the Visa Business Credit Card—the first of its kind in the market—helps businesses track and manage expenses with ease.

Speaking at the launch, David Wandera, Interim Managing Director of Absa Bank Uganda, emphasized the bank’s focus on innovation and financial convenience.

“These new card offerings are designed for high-value customers who require seamless global transactions. Partnering with Visa allows us to provide world-class financial solutions that meet the evolving needs of our clients,” Wandera said.

Exclusive Benefits for Cardholders

Customers who sign up for the Visa Infinite and Signature Cards will enjoy privileges such as: 24/7 concierge services for travel and lifestyle bookings, Luxury airport lounge access and premium airport experiences, Comprehensive travel and medical insurance, Purchase protection, extended warranties, and exclusive hotel offers

For businesses, the Visa Business Credit Card offers; Centralized expense management and detailed reporting, Real-time spending insights and customized payment controls, Corporate card liability insurance waivers

Chad Pollock, Vice President and General Manager of Visa East Africa, reaffirmed Visa’s commitment to innovation in Uganda’s banking sector.

“Our partnership with Absa Uganda has always been rooted in innovation and financial inclusion. The launch of these Visa cards marks another step in providing convenient and secure payment solutions for Ugandans,” he stated.

Uganda’s Digital Payment Growth

The introduction of these premium cards comes at a time when Uganda is experiencing a significant rise in digital payments. According to the Uganda Bankers Association 2023 Banking Sector Report, debit card transaction values surged from UGX 532.9 billion in Q3 2023 to UGX 581.1 billion in Q4 2023, reflecting growing confidence in digital transactions.

As of December 2024, Absa Bank Uganda leads the market, with: 18.5% growth in payment volume (PV) compared to the market average of 11%. 15% active card growth, outpacing the market average of 2%

Enhanced Security for Cardholders

Albert Byaruhanga, Acting Retail and Business Banking Director at Absa Bank Uganda, assured customers of the bank’s strong security measures.

“Our top priority is protecting our customers’ funds. We have implemented cutting-edge security features and fraud prevention mechanisms to ensure safe transactions,” Byaruhanga said.

The Visa Infinite, Signature, and Business Credit Cards are now available at all Absa Bank Uganda branches. Interested customers can visit any branch to apply and unlock exclusive benefits.
