Three PDM SACCO Leaders Arrested Over Corruption Allegations in Obongi

Police in Obongi District have detained three leaders of the Ewafa Parish Development Model (PDM) Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) on charges of corruption. The arrested individuals are John Bosco Moiyini, the SACCO Chairperson; Swaib Isile, Supervisory Committee Chairperson; and Nickson Barack, SACCO Secretary.

The arrests were ordered by Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka during a meeting with PDM beneficiaries at Ewafa Trading Center. The trio is accused of extorting 150,000 Ugandan shillings from each of the 100 SACCO members, a practice RDC Mpimbaza condemned as unlawful.

RDC Mpimbaza emphasized his commitment to ensuring that funds allocated for the Parish Development Model reach their intended recipients. He stated, “I am determined to ensure that funds meant for the Parish Development Model reach their intended beneficiaries. Anyone misusing these poverty alleviation funds will face the full force of the law.”

One of the complainants, Mariam Nasur, a resident of Ewafa Sub-county, reported that she paid 150,000 shillings to Swaib Isile in August of the previous year but did not receive the promised 1 million shillings under the PDM.

The suspects are currently held at Obongi Central Police Station as investigations continue. This incident underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption and ensure the proper utilization of development funds.
