Cissy Namujju warmly welcomed from Prsion by her Constituent

Lwengo locals celebrated the release of their member of parliament, Cissy Namujju, during a thanksgiving ceremony at St. Jude Catholic Church in Kyazanga Town.

Constituents showed their sincere support for Namujju after she was released on bail by the Anti Corruption Court after being placed on remand for 55 days on corruption accusations.

Namujju discussed her experience in jail during the event, characterizing it as an unanticipated moment of personal development.

“Being behind bars has taught me valuable lessons,” Namujju said.

“Despite my wealth, it couldn’t shield me from imprisonment. This is a lesson I will carry with me for the rest of my life.” Namujju revealed.

The legislator’s warm reception follows presidential advisor Justine Nameere’s last-ditch effort to stop the festivities, citing the party’s reputation for combating corruption.

In a letter to the State House last week, Ms. Nameere requested that Namujju’s Thanksgiving be prohibited because it “glorifies corruption” and shows a lack of regret.

Her comments during the Thanksgiving service provided insight into her thoughts, despite the fact that she has not spoken about the particulars of her case since her release on bond.

Namujju made the unexpected remark that her experiences in jail were unreal, as though she had been witnessing them in nightmares.

“I have been dreaming about these events before they happened,” she revealed.

Prominent individuals also attended the thanksgiving celebration, including Budaka’s Woman MP Pamela Nyasiyo. She and other MPs thanked the people of Lwengo for their continuous support.

“The solidarity shown by the people of Lwengo during MP Namujju’s imprisonment is truly commendable,” Nyasiyo stated.

Bishop Seruverus Jumba of the Masaka Diocese was represented by Rev. Fr. Nsamba Gonzaga, who spoke to the assembly and urged them to be inspired by Namujju’s tenacity.

“The courage shown by Namujju in the face of adversity can be likened to the perseverance of Jesus Christ during his crucifixion,” Fr. Gonzaga said.

Namujju’s charity contributions to the area have been recognized by the locals.

“Namujju has funded numerous projects in Lwengo. To us, she is a hero,” one resident remarked.

Anita Among, the Speaker of Parliament, also praised Namujju’s magnanimity.

“It’s admirable to have a public servant who shares her resources with her people,” Among said.

At Namujju’s parents’ Kabukye residence, after the church service, members of multiple faith communities—Muslims, Born-Again Christians, and Anglicans—joined in a multifaith prayer session.

The interfaith event demonstrated the widespread solidarity and support Namujju receives from the community.
