Lwemiyaga MP Theodore Ssekikubo finally gets signatures to impeach Parliamentary Commissioners

After obtaining the 177 signatures required to table the resolution, the movers and seconders of the motion to impeach four Commissioners of Parliament declared that the search for the necessary quantity of signatures was concluded.

Legislator for Lwemiyaga County Theodore Ssekikubo claims that the realization that the necessary number of signatures has been obtained is evidence that some members of Parliament are dedicated to ridding the legislature of corruption.

The motion’s proponents and opponents, who wanted to remove the four troubled commissioners of Parliament by Thursday, have managed to gather more signatures than what’s required to get the motion on the floor of Parliament, even though they only needed one to reach the necessary tally.

The motion’s movers and seconders claim that the search for the necessary signatures is over, which is a relief to everyone who wants the three commissioners and the former opposition leader Mathias Mpuuga to answer for the Shs1.7 billion that they illegally shared.

The realization that the necessary number of signatures is needed, according to Ssekikubo and colleagues, is evidence that there are dedicated lawmakers who wish to combat corruption in the August House.

“Even when we have realised the required number, the signature collection is still open until Monday to all MPs that want to join the history of fighting corruption in Parliament,” MP Ssekikubo said.

Jackson Atima of Arua Central Division and Dr. Florence Asiimwe Akiiki, the two MPs who appended their signatures to the motion to meet the required number of signatures, explained to them that they had made this decision due to pressure from their constituents and the four commissioners’ refusal to resign.

“They have been abusing me in the constituency and on on several burial ceremonies I have been denied to speak. I have e also seen my opponents decampaign me using the same tool that I support the corrupt officials in Parliament,” Dr Asiimwe, woman MP Masindi, said.

“My decision has also been made to the fact that NRM CEC has delayed to provide guidance on the matter. The commissioners have also refused to resign even after sharing the Shs1.7bn that was not passed by Parliament.
