New roads improving Eastern Uganda livelihoods

Eastern Uganda is reveling in the bliss of brand new roads and bridges, which they say, have greatly improved business and interconnection. The Kayunga-Kamulia Bridge and the Musita – Lumino Busia road are some of the roads that have given the region a new face.

At Buwama trading centre, right after the Isimba Bridge connecting Kayunga district to Kamuli, the locals could not hide their excitement about the bridge. The Bridge has eased movement of goods and people.

The entire roadside market and taxi park was non-existent before the bridge was constructed; but they have since become the lifeline for locals. For the businessmen in Jinja, it is the Jinja Nile Bridge that they are thankful for.

Transporters at Musita say the new 104 KM Musita Lumino Busia road has increased numbers and subsequently, putting more shillings in their pockets.

In Pallisa, the Mbale Tirrinyi Nakalama road, according to locals, has turned their Village into a modern town in their own backyard.

The head of Communications at Uganda national roads Authority Steve Kirenga says UNRA is committed to improving the entire road network countrywide.

Mbale’s Sino Industrial park manager Park Chey says the roads and bridges have eased business, cutting down on their transport costs.
