Covid cases increase as guidelines remain relaxed – Charles Olaro

The Ministry of health case management team has raised concern over the increasing number of COVID 19 cases among children and young adults at a time when the country has relaxed on COVID 19 Guidelines.

Dr Charles Olaro the Director of Clinical and Curative services intimated that 8 of the patients currently admitted are severely ill and under Intensive care.

While the country seems to have managed to reduce its COVID 19 statistics, the Ministry of Health notes that its far from over as the clinical team now identifies more children and adults with COVID 19.

For instance, in the month of April alone, of the 38 cases registered, 2 children were below 9 years, 6 were between 10 – 19 years, 9 were aged 20 – 29 while only 9 were aged 30 – 39.

The country has so far registered five covid 19 variants. These are also wide spread, with theUK variant reported in Busia, the South African variant in Kampala wakiso, Mukono, Kyotera, Masaka while the Rakai and the Nigerian Variants are in Kampala and Amuru.

Dr Olaro said at this rate the medical teams are on standby should the numbers increase.

This threat comes at a time when most Ugandans have relaxed on implementing the COVID 19 standard operating procedures.

In down Town Kampala most Water points have been removed while those still surviving are not used. Some offices that had the water points have been let to go to waste, with most broken.

While coughing in one’s elbows was a common reminder last year, this was equally not practiced.

Many taxis have also been identified to be loading passengers at half capacity, many of whom are not wearing masks or washing their hands before boarding.
