The State House Health Monitoring Unit (HMU) has launched an investigation into the alleged theft of government medical supplies from Ntara Health Centre IV and Mahyoro Health Centre III in Kitagwenda District.
This inquiry follows the arrest of a boda-boda rider found transporting a sack of medical supplies labeled “Government of Uganda – Not for Sale.” The intercepted items included paracetamol tablets, Cotrimoxazole capsules, and gloves. Preliminary findings suggest that two health officials, Ronald Mukamasimwe and Julius Businge, sold the drugs to the suspect. Both officials are currently unaccounted for.
Dr. Warren Naamara, Executive Director of the HMU, emphasized that these actions violate the Anti-Corruption Act of 2009. The HMU has instructed the Kitagwenda District Chief Administrative Officer to take disciplinary measures against the implicated officials in accordance with Public Service Standing Orders.
This incident highlights the urgent need for stringent oversight in managing medical supplies in public health facilities. The HMU is committed to holding those responsible accountable and ensuring the integrity of healthcare delivery across the country.
The public is urged to collaborate with authorities in curbing corruption and protecting access to essential medicines. Efforts are underway to rebuild trust in government health facilities and prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
