Muhammad Nsereko Promises to Restore Term Limits After Joining Presidential Race

Muhammad Nsereko, the longtime Member of Parliament for Kampala Central, has officially stepped away from parliamentary politics and declared his 2026 presidential bid under the Ecological Party of Uganda. This bold move marks a new chapter for the outspoken legislator, who has served in Parliament since 2011.

Nsereko was recently elected president and presidential flag bearer of the Ecological Party during a national delegates’ conference held in Entebbe. Now in a recent television interview address, Nsereko promised to restore presidential term limits if elected, setting a firm tone for his campaign.

“I promised not to run for MP after three terms, and now that my terms have expired, I have proven that when you are true to your word, you live up to it,” Nsereko said. “When I say that as Ecological Party we shall restore term limits, with the president serving a maximum of two terms, we mean it, because we stand by our word.”

The Ecological Party of Uganda, a relatively new political entity, promotes non-violence, unity beyond tribal lines, and environmental preservation. Nsereko emphasized these values as central to his leadership approach, positioning himself as a reformist voice in Uganda’s political landscape.

“We’re in a democratic and multi-party dispensation, and members of the Ecological Party saw it fit to elect me as their president through a free and fair process,” Nsereko stated. “I have a passion for providing free access to education and transforming our education system.”

Nsereko also reflected on his critics, saying, “How many people laughed at Museveni when he went to the bush? But now look where he is.” He urged Ugandans to take his campaign seriously as a platform for real change.

His decision not to seek re-election in Kampala Central opens up a competitive race for the constituency, while his presidential ambitions present a new dynamic in the 2026 election cycle. With a focus on accountability, democracy, and environmental justice, Nsereko is poised to shake up Uganda’s political narrative.
