Uganda bagged the 16th position in the just concluded World Athletics Championship that took place at the Hawyard Field in Oregon, USA.
This is after the country got 3 medals in the competitions. These were from all long distance runners.
A gold medal was got by Joshua Cheptegei in the 10,000m. A bronze medal was also obtained by Jacob Kiplimo in the same category while Oscar Chelimo got a bronze medal in the 5000m yesterday.
Cheptegei also participated in the 5000m but finished far from the podium in the 9th position. These meters were won by Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen with Kenya’s Jacob Krop coming in second for silver and Chelimo completing the medal set in third for bronze.
Chelimo had a personal best time of 13:10:20. He’s been touted for big things ahead of him. Chelimo is also a younger brother to Jacob Kiplimo another long distance runner.
The competitions lasted for a week and had a total of 192 countries participating in them.
Athletes from the country will now shift their attention to the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham that begin later this week.
Some contingents have already departed the country for Britain ahead of the games.
