Leaked Video Scandal Turns Into Political Fuel for Kakwanzi Elizabeth’s Youth MP Bid

Kakwanzi Elizabeth Katanywa’s viral video has sparked significant conversation, enhancing her efforts to obtain the youth MP position for western Uganda. The emerging politician has captured attention both nationally and internationally due to this unfortunate clip.

Her team and she have labeled the video as AI-generated and a deliberate attack from unknown adversaries, yet it has seemingly benefited her campaign. Among the many candidates competing for the parliamentary seat, Kakwanzi has undoubtedly become the most talked-about contender.

Her likelihood of securing the NRM ticket and ultimately the position has significantly increased. Prior to this video, Kakwanzi was merely another candidate aiming for the youthful office.

Currently, opinion polls indicate that she stands in about second place, with roughly 25% of the votes. The frontrunner in the race, Jordan Amburire Mpairwe, holds approximately 27%.

Daisy Arinda Kankiriho is closely trailing Kakwanzi with around 20%. Other contenders, including Julian Amanya, Dr. Taali King Mukasa, and Mujuni Reinold, follow behind. The party will evaluate all these candidates in the upcoming days to determine who will represent it in the national elections.

For Kakwanzi Elizabeth, it remains uncertain if the NRM will choose to capitalize on this newfound popularity among the youth or if they will opt to distance themselves from her and the viral video.

Currently, the Western youth MP post is held by Edson Rugumayo, who served from 2021 to 2026 and is not eligible for reelection.
