Gen Muhoozi Demands Immediate Release of Col Kasule Amid Armed Robbery Allegations

The Chief of Defense Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has called for the prompt release of Col James Kasule. Reports indicate that the Colonel, a member of the UPDF, was arrested on allegations of armed robbery and the kidnapping of a gold dealer in Mubende District.

He is currently being held at Makindye Military Barracks, where his military vehicle linked to the crime scene is also parked. Security sources involved in the investigation revealed that the incident took place on Saturday, when Col. Kasule and a group of soldiers reportedly abducted a gold dealer under unclear circumstances.

Sources further suggest that the trader had a significant amount of money from prior gold sales. It is alleged that his captors compelled him to contact his friends to send money to him via mobile money, which was subsequently withdrawn.

However, the CDF has now stated that Kasule should be released at once, asserting that he knows him very well and that he is one of the most experienced officers in the army. Muhoozi added that he would personally address the matter with Kasule.

“I hear that our Intelligence officers arrested Col.Kasule for something. He should immediately be released. Col.Kasule is one of our old fighters. I know him very well. I shall deal with him myself,” tweeted the General

Incidents of misconduct like this have long affected the reputation of the Armed Forces. Meanwhile, the General’s comments have sparked a wide range of reactions, with many asserting that this represents a form of dictatorship, as he should allow the appropriate authorities to conduct their responsibilities without interference or pressure.
