The President of Uganda H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has come out to congratulate William Samoei Arap Aruto who was yesterday declared the president of Kenya after a tightly contested election.
Ruto polled 7,176,141 votes which gave him a percentage of 50.49 while his closest rival Raila Odinga polled 6,942,930 votes equivalent to a percentage of 48.85.
This therefore saw Ruto declared the 5th president of the Republic of Kenya.
Museveni in his address revealed how he had already contacted Ruto via a phone call last night. He further assured him of Uganda’s commitment to continue working with Kenya through the different global and regional organizations.
Gen Museveni also expressed optimism on the bilateral cooperation between the two countries which will score highly. He added how he can’t wait to work with Ruto after he takes oath of his new office.
It should be recalled that widespread rumors had it how Ruto was backed by Museveni in this election.
The pair seem to have a great relationship and they even met in Uganda a few months prior to the election.
Odinga on the other hand who was contesting for the 5th time losing all these times was backed by the outgoing Kenyan government.
Ugandan opposition political leaders Kiiza Besigye and Bobi Wine also seemed to be on the side of Odinga.
And it seems the saying that says birds of the same feather flock together came true in this scenario.
Congratulations to Kenya and William Ruto for concluding this election which had the entire region on the edge.
