Twitter yesterday 8th February 2022 saw NBS journalist Moses Walugembe trend after he alleged that he was some time ago told by the current minister of information Dr Chris Baryomunsi how the government murdered the late MP Cerinah Nebanda.
Nebanda was the woman MP of Butaleja district and her controversial death caused a political stir in the country.
She passed away in 2012 but her death up to now brings up mixed reactions.
Walugembe while appearing on a Twitter space hosted by journalist Solomon Sserwanja said that he’s surprised by the way Chris Baryomunsi defends the government’s torture.
This is because it was the same Baryomunsi that confirmed to him and others while in his car how politics was so dirty adding that the young Nebanda had been killed by government.
“I’m disturbed by the way Chris Baryomunsi defends this regime yet he used to criticize it. I remember we one day sat in his car after the death of Mp Cerinah Nebanda and he told us how the state had killed her. He frankly told us how politics works and said that it was the government responsible for her death and he well knew about it,” Walugembe said.
Nebanda’s autopsy said that she had died from drug abuse. This is because loads of heroin, cocaine and other narcotics were found in her bloodstream.
This report was however rejected by Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga who was the Speaker of Parliament by then.
There were rumors that she had been murdered by the NRM the party she belonged to because she was slowly turning into a government critic.
However, Museveni came out to deny these rumors . Some news daily wrote how she had been poisoned while another story said that a family pathologist was arrested on his way to South Africa to run an independent tests result on the corpse.
Nebanda’s boyfriend Adam Sulaiman Kalungi was arrested in Kenya and extradited to Uganda in regards to her death but he was later released and all charges against him dropped.
