Controversial city lawyer Male Mabirizi has been in the news in the recent past for his cases that usually catch people’s attention due to their comical nature.
However the latest case is against him after the High court ordered him to pay 300m for abusing judicial officers.
Short of this he will be sent behind bars.
Mabirizi was held in contempt by Justice Musa Sekaana for commenting on an ongoing case through his different social media pages.
This happened after the Attorney General went to court to hold the lawyer in contempt for posting on his offical Facebook and Twitter pages “Uganda People’s Interests and @MaleMabiriziHHK” respectively.
Mabirizi’s comments were about a case filed concerning the Capital Markets Authority and MTN.
Mabirizi is said to have pushed the presiding judge, Philip Odoki to give a ruling in his favor.
This saw Mabirizi who was dissatisfied with the eventual ruling allegedly post everything on his social media pages.
He added messages that called upon the public to disregard the ruling branding the judge as corrupt and incompetent.
Justice Sekaana said that Mabirizi’s statements were meant to undermine the authenticity of the judge and undermining the independence of the Judiciary.
It was from this that Justice Sekaana ordered Mabirizi to pay this hefty fine.
In his ruling, Sekaana further warned Mabirizi against attacking judicial officers and also asked him to pay the Attorney General the costs of the application.
