We wanted to be different from Amin- Mugisha Muntu on NRM’s Liberation Day

Former presidential candidate Maj Gen Gregory Mugisha Muntu through his Twitter page revealed the reason for putting the NRM Liberation day on 26th January.

The Alliance for National Transformation president said that the NRM captured Kampala on the 25th of January 1986.

It was however agreed to mark the date of the Liberation day as 26th January.

The motive behind this was done to disregard themselves from the crimes committed by a previous president, Idi Amin Dada.

Historically, Amin overthrew Obote’s government on 25th January 1971.

According to Muntu this was the right thing to do and he still has that feeling.

However, what everyone feared has recurred again although its happening at different dates.

The NRM celebrated 36 years yesterday at Kololo Independence Grounds since it captured power.

Although it has seen tremendous achievements, the party has been accused of resurrecting the same things it fought so hard to end.

These included extra judicial killings, electoral malpractice, dictatorship, corruption among others.
