DP president and former presidential candidate Nobert Mao has come out to say that NUP principle Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine jumped into something that he was not prepared for.
Mao says that Bobi Wine was the first national leader to emerge from the Buganda Region.
This made him vulnerable and soon instead of being a tent for the entire country, he became a blanket for a small population.
Mao says that the words the former Kyadondo east legislator used in his politics were not fit for a leader such as giving people false hope.
Mao further said that Kyagulanyi had launched a missile from a canoe.
“I said in my article that Bobi Wine was the first national leader to emerge from this region. He was captured, and what was supposed to be a tent turned into a blanket.
He was once asked whether he would take over government in a year, and he said not even one month. This is where I say never launch a missile from a canoe,” Mao said.
Mao who was appearing on the NBS Frontline program on the 30th of December 2021 added that different avenues for dialogue should be created other than running for office.
This is because the NRM has the majority of numbers in these offices and therefore less opposition.
“The only platform for engagement now is running for office. We must create platforms where we can engage without running for office. I think the NRM is on a long vacation in Parliament without pressure,” Mao added.
Minister of Communications and National Guidance Dr Chris Baryomunsi who was a panelist on the program too labeled NUP another example of a Covid 19 crisis.
Baryomunsi said that NUP was a Buganda caucus which was easily managed by the NRM.
“There was a lot of noise from NUP. As you are aware, it turned out to be a Buganda issue. It is like a #COVID19 wave that comes and can be managed. We are focusing on the NRM manifesto to offer services,” Baryomunsi said.
