Breaking News: Uganda Confirms 9 cases of the Omicron COVID 19 variant

According to the latest news, Uganda has confirmed 9 cases of the Omicron variant of the COVID 19 virus in the country.

These 9 cases were all detected from the samples taken from travellers who arrived in the country via Entebbe International Airport.

The Omicron variant first detected in Botswana and South Africa has prompted concern amongst scientists and public health officials because of an unusually high number of mutations that have the potential to make the virus more transmissible and less susceptible to the existing vaccines .

Meanwhile the cumulative confirmed cases of COVID 19 are 127,708 in the country.

The Omicron scare comes at a time when the economy is set to be fully reopened in January 2022.

This leaves this development hanging in the air and its expected the President will be giving an update soon.
