Don Nabaasa Takes Over From Brig Keith Katungi As Military Police Commander

Yesterday 24th November 2021 saw Major General Don Nabaasa assume office as the new head of the Military Police from Brigadier Keith Katungi.

This ceremony was held at the Military Police headquarters in Makindye and was presided over by the Chief of Defense Forces Lt Gen Peter Elwelu.

Elwelu praised Katungi’s partial exploits in handling the 2021 general elections.

“You came at a time when we were having a very serious event in our country which was the 2021 general elections. It was an important task for the entire country and I have no doubts that you will perform very well in your new assignment in Somalia as Uganda Contingent Commander under AMISOM,” Lt Gen Peter Elwelu said to Brig Keith Katungi.

Elwelu then turned to the new head Maj Gen Nabaasa and told him that he has to make sure that he doesn’t let down the recognition and trust the Commander-In-Chief has placed in him.

“Don’t play around with titles, they are very important. It means the authorities have put trust in you and still believe in you,” Elwelu said to Nabaasa.

Brig Keith Katungi also appreciated the President and armed forces for the trust, cooperation and confidence accorded to him during his reign in office.

“I thank the Commander-in-Chief for giving me the opportunity to serve as Commandant Military Police brigade but also for the new appointment as the Uganda Contingent Commander under AMISOM,” Katungi said.

Nabaasa while accepting the office given to him thanked the President and the UPDF leadership for trusting him with such a big position.

“As we advance our core values of service, patriotism, justice and sacrifice; you, our leaders have maintained the forces on our historical mission and providing security so as to enable Socio-economic transformation of our country.”

Some of the attendees of this ceremony included the following among others
the Deputy Commander Land Forces, Maj Gen Sam Okiding, the first division commander, Maj Gen Sam Kawagga, Deputy Chief of Military Intelligence, Brig Gen Charles Asiimwe, Deputy Commander Special Forces Command, Brig Gen Felix Busizoori, Deputy Director General ISO, Lt Col Emmy Katabazi, Deputy Commandant Military Police, Col Gai Mpandwa, Military Police Operations and Training Officer, Col Napoleon Namanya, the Resident City Commissioner, Kampala, Hudu Hussein, Deputy RCCs, Kampala, Commander Kampala Metropolitan Police, SCP Stephen Tanui, other UPDF and sister security agencies senior officers and leaders from the Metropolitan region.
