Minister Janet Museveni left stranded as MPs decline to meet her

The Ministry of Education and Sports headed by the first lady Janet Kataaha Museveni has been forced to call off the scheduled meeting with MPs which was to take place on Wednesday 24 November 2021.

This meeting had been sanctioned by Janet Museveni to take place at Kololo Independence Grounds but the legislators defied this summon saying they can only meet her inside the Parliament Chambers.

Through her Ministry, the first lady had earlier written to MPs notifying them that it was risky for her to go to Parliament due to the risk of contracting COVID 19.

She therefore requested them to converge at Kololo Independence Grounds.

The minister was supposed to deliver a message and update to the MPs about the plans her Ministry has in place for the safe reopening of schools in January 2022 as announced by President Museveni in his recent addresses.

MPs especially from the Opposition however vehemently opposed this summon saying that they are the ones to summon her and not the other way round.

These maintained that she’s no different from other Ministers who come to Parliament.

These vowed not to set foot in Kololo saying that such a process requires them to take COVID 19 tests as well as not going with their phones which is unconvincing.
