The Uganda Railways Corporation yesterday 3rd November 2021 admitted that they did not follow the rightful procedures while selling their lands across the country.
The Managing Director of Ugand Railways Corporation Mr Stanley Ssendegeya made the confession after being quizzed by the Parliamentary Committee on Commissions and Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) chaired by Nakawa West MP ,Hon Joel Ssenyonyi.
These were tasked to explain how hundreds of properties have over the years been grabbed and owned by individuals and companies.
M Ssendegeya admitted that the rightful steps were not taken and it’s an action they greatly regret.
He added that in some instances, phone calls were made to the company by people he denied to mention ordering then to sell off the land of to certain individuals at wanton prices.
“In some cases, it was out of control for the company. Some were just orders from above. We could not say no to them,” Ssendegeya revealed.
The company was one of the most valuable companies in Uganda but has since been staggering with almost all it’s assets being sold away.
The company operations have been stale for decades now with government in plans to revive the railway services.
