The Rt Hon deputy speaker of Parliament Anita Among has come out to send a strong resounding warning to those intimidating her.
Among told all those Mps that think of intimidating her to know that she’s their deputy speaker for the next ten years and their speaker for other ten more years to come.
She made these comments after reports allegedly linking her to dubious financial dealings before being elected deputy speaker leaked on social media.
The comments were made during a debate in a motion paying tribute to Uganda’s first female legislator Florence Alice Lubega who passed away last week at the age of 103.
Hon Florence Alice Lubega served in the Legislative Council between 1958-1961 and in 1962 where she was the legislator for Ssingo North making her the first female Ugandan MP.
Hon Among noted that the deceased set the ground moving for female leaders currently.
Among added that this is the reason women like her are in leadership and in Parliament where she’s confident to serve as deputy speaker for 10 years and a as a fully fledged speaker for the next 10 years
The MP also encouraged women to not always fear being blackmailed or intimidated.
Leader of Opposition Hon Mathias Mpuuga also said that the current leaders have a duty to look out for the girl child during this eulogy of the late former MP.
Mpuuga said that girls have suffered greatly during this pandemic lockdown with skyrocketing teenage pregnancies adding that it’s necessary to put measures in place to prevent the girl child from sexual exploitation so that they can be like the late mp.
Hon Sarah Opendi the Tororo woman mp described the deceased as a remarkable legislator who gained popularity for her tough stance against the executive and urged her fellow MPS to emulate her.
