Court in Mubende has today morning 22nd October 2021 nullified the election victory of NUP’s Joyce Bagala Ntwatwa as the woman MP for Mityana district.
The ruling was given by Judge Baguma Emmanuel who ordered for fresh elections.
This was after Judith Nabakooba of the NRM filed a petition challenging Bagala’s victory.
Nabakooba who was the then MP for the district before the elections alleges that there was voter bribery and other election malpractices which resulted into her loss coming in second.
Nabakooba lost the election by a margin of 16000 votes but will be hoping to overturn this result in the by elections.
In March, Nabakooba who is the Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development petitioned Court challenging Joyce Bagala’s victory alleging that the Electoral Commission had failed it’s duty of securing the running of a free and fair election.
She added that her agents as well as other voters were threatened and intimidated.
Nabakooba added that polling agents connived with Bagala and her agents to procure voting by unregistered voters and multiple voting.
She also added that at the time of vote counting, her valid votes were counted among the invalid ones.
