Ssegirinya was already sick with injuries – Frank Baine

Uganda Prisons Services spokesperson Frank Baine has come out to dispute the reports that Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya’s health situation has deteriorated while in jail, claiming he was received while already suffering from injuries.

This was after the legislator was seen with wounds allover his foot while attending a court session via zoom.

Ssegirinya revealed that he sustained the injuries after being tortured by the Prison warders while at Kigo prison.

Baine said that as the Prisons system, they never torture prisoners and therefore Ssegirinya came with these injuries.

“It has never been in our interest that we torture our family members. Yes, Hon Ssegirinya is sick and we are treating him for as long as he is with us, many times we receive these inmates from courts when they are already sick,” Baine said.

He added that they always encourage their inmates to speak up in case they are tortured in order to follow up the matter.

“When someone has been tortured, we encourage them to tell us when they were tortured and by who. That’s how we can follow up,” Baine added.

Meanwhile in a related incident, Kampala Woman MP Hon Shamim Malende who is the lawyer of Ssegirinya and Ssewanyana was today morning 21st October 2021 attacked by unknown people along Masaka road.

The legislator was heading to Masaka for the bail application of the two MP’s.

Her car was left deflated but she was unharmed.
