Different political parties belonging to the Opposition yesterday launched a new alliance named the People’s Front for Transition.
These were led by former presidential candidate and FDC founder Col Dr Kiiza Besigye and it included the likes of FDC, CP, JEEMA among other parties.
However, what caught people’s attention was the exclusion of the National Unity Platform which has the biggest number of MPs in Parliament a d currently the biggest Opposition political party.
Some of the notable figures in this new pressure group included Kiiza Besigye, Kampala lord mayor Erias Lukwago, John Ken, Lubega Mukaku who had issues with NUP and DP’s Paul Kenneth Kakande.
The group was launched in Mengo at the JEEMA headquarters.
While speaking at the launch, Besigye said tht their goal is to oust Museveni out of power before 2026 and the ripe time is now.
Besigye also said that this new pressure group is the only way that Gen Museveni will be dethroned to save the country from his menacing grip.
This group however has been interpreted by a number of people as a direct threat to pop star Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s NUP.
Ever since Bobi Wine came onto the political scene, there has been a shift of power in the opposition from Besigye and FDC to Bobi Wine and NUP respectively.
This new group did not only captured a number of disgruntled top NUP honchos but also the services of former Buganda Kingdom Katikiro Dan Muliika who will be a massive addition soon.
This is another obstacle NUP will have to counter in it’s quest for dominance of Opposition politics.
