Ssegirinya rearrested, Lukwago updates on Ssewanyana

Kawempe Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya has been rearrested on fresh charges just a few moments after stepping out of Kigo remand prison after being granted bail.

Ssegirinya was arrested in the same manner as his counterpart Makindye west MP Allan Ssewanyana was arrested by security forces last week after just stepping out of Kigo prison.

Ssegirinya was put into the infamous drone heavily guarded by armed securirt personnel.

Police then came out to confirm that indeed they were the ones responsible for Hon Ssegiriya’s arrest.

The Police further did that he was rearrested on fresh charges of treason and violence.

“We want to inform the public that Hon Ssegirinya Mohammad has also been rearrested on fresh charges of treason and incitement to violence by joint security task team of investigators.

He as been transferred to the Special Investigations Division in Kireka for further statement recording and action,” part of the police statement read.

Meanwhile the lord mayor Erias Lukwago came out yesterday to provide an update on Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana who was rearrested last week.

Lukwago said that he was finally able to talk with Ssewanyana at the office of the I.O Det ASP Mantanzima at SIU Kireka where the MP had been transferred for purposes of recording a new statement following his “abduction and detention incommunicado.”

The lord mayor added that Hon Ssewanyana was charged with new a new count of murder.

“He has been charged with a new count of murder, bringing the total number of counts to seven; 4 of murder, attempted murder, terrorism and abetting terrorism. In the new charge, it’s alleged that on the 4th day of August 2021, he killed a one Bwanika Joseph of Kisekka B Village, Kankamba Parish, Lwengo district,” Lukwago said.

Lukwago added that the security forces remained in possession of Ssewanyana and they were cagey about their next course of action.

He further said that they recently filed a case of habeas corpus which is pending hearing.
