NUP MPS Allan Ssewanyana and Muhammad Ssegirinya are still languishing behind bars at Kigo even though the Masaka High Court granted them bail on the 20th of September.
After the hustle of the NUP team, the two legislators were accorded a cash bail of 20M each much to the happiness of their comrades.
However, despite this Court order, the two MPs are yet to be released by security forces as told by NUP through their Twitter page.
The party however said that it’s engaging all it’s legal avenues to secure the release of the two as directed by Court.
The two were remanded to prison earlier this month over charges of masterminding the Masaka murders that claimed a number of lives.
However in the latest twist of events, the legislators are now facing different charges from what was originally placed onto them.
This was after Marion Mangeni the Biganda Road Court Chief Magistrate gave a criminal summon for Muhammad Ssegirinya for illegal protesting against the Electoral Commission.
It’s said that Ssegirinya in March spearheaded an unlawful demonstration demanding for the announcement of NUP leader Hon Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu as the elected President of Uganda in the January 2021 presidential election.
This case was adjourned to 20th October 2021.
For Allan Ssewanyana,it’s not yet clear why he’s still behind bars.
