NUP trashes links between their MPs and Masaka murders

The country has been in shock over the past two months over the gruesome murders in the Greater Masaka sub-region.

These murders included the killing of elderly people preferably 50 years and above and the number of deaths reached around 27.

Security operatives and government were put on the docket by the citizens on what was going on and why they couldn’t protect them.

Subsequently, the security in the area was beefed up and since then no murder has been reported.

Minister Chris Baryomunsi came out in a parliamentary address to link the murders to politics a sentiment that was reaffirmed by his boss President Museveni.

This was much to the dismay of opposition figures and some security operatives who had come out to say that the killings shouldn’t be mixed with politics because this will prove a thorn in curbing the criminality in the area.

The country was thrown into further shock after NUP MPS Allan Ssewanyana and Muhammad Ssegirinya were served with notices summoning them to Masaka Police station.

The two legislators appeared alongside their lawyers on Monday this week and were sent behind bars up to the 15th of September 2021.

Police said that the suspects arrested had pinned the two legislators as the masterminds behind the murders.

Police further said that the suspects said the two MPS promised them wealth once they executed this mission.

However, according to NUP spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, this is a diversion by the government because of mounting pressure from the public.

“They are trying to link the murders in Masaka to NUP. But we (NUP) got overwhelming votes in that area. Why would we want to kill people there? Someone is trying to create a diversion because of the mounting pressure.” The Mp said.

Ssenyonyi said that for a long time, the NRM has been priding itself in security but this is something they can no longer boast about.

He further said that all they are doing is advising security organs not to rush to conclusions but carry out proper investigations.

The Nakawa West legislator said that they are very sure the court will throw this case out and it does no give them sleepless nights.

Ssenyonyi also said that very soon Police will start parading suspects who will accuse the two MPs because that’s how the script was written.

“Very soon, you are going to see police parading people, and they will confess that they were sent by Hon. Ssegirinya and Hon. Ssewanyana. That’s how the script is going to flow. These guys are not very smart.” The legislator added.

He concluded by saying that it’s high time the government started valuing the lives of Ugandans because all they need is security for their lives and property which is the responsibility of the government.
