Frank Gashumba reveals what Museveni after arrest of Victoria University VC

Political analyst and businessman Frank Gashumba yesterday7th September 2021 while appearing on NBS TV Barometer program revealed what President Museveni said after watching the video of how Victoria University Vice-Chancellor Dr Lawrence Muganga was arrested from the University premises last week.

The Vice-Chancellor had been arrested by joint security forces on espionage and illegal stay in the country but was later released after backlash from the public.

Gashumba said that the way the VC was arrested was inappropriate and the only thing they had to do was to contact the President for his release.

“The way the VC was arrested was inappropriate. The President had to intervene for his release. We contacted him. We don’t have to call him but what do you do?

They were even saying they had the right to shoot.” Frank Gashumba said.

Gashumba went ahead to defend Dr Lawrence Muganga saying that he was born here and when he failed to get a job, he left for Rwanda.

It was from Rwanda that he relocated to Canada and on returning to Uganda, he got a job at Victoria University.

In regards to what President Museveni said on seeing the video, Gashumba said that the President was shocked.

“The President watched the video of his arrest, and he said, “This is unbelievable.”

This is going to happen to everyone. An attack on one person is an attack on all of us.” Frank Gashumba said.

Gashumba further said that the Vice-Chancellor had studied with his brother at Makerere University and is also the chairperson of the Bavandimwe reason why he (Gashumba) decided to stand up when his rights were being violated.

The displeased Gashumba added that some people in the government have turned into demigods because it was just after the President’s security address that this inappropriate arrest occurred.

However, Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze said that she was shocked to learn that the release of the VC required the intervention of the President.

“I am shocked to hear that releasing Dr. Muganga on police bond took the intervention of the President.
How different is this situation from “gamba nogu”? Mp Nambooze said.

Gashumba however defended the intervention of the President saying that everyone has channels they use when they are troubled.
