Victoria University VC released, labels security unprofessional

Earlier this week, the country was left in shock after security operatives in plain clothes belonging to the CMI raided Victoria University and abducted the Vice-Chancellor Dr Lawrence Muganga.

Brig Flavia Byekwaso the UPDF Spokesperson came out to trash the abduction narrative saying that he was arrested on charges of espionage and illegally living in the country.

A number of high profile figures and the general public came out to condemn such a kind of arrest saying this was an outdated way of arresting suspects.

These included senior journalist Andrew Mwenda who is said to have gotten Dr Lawrence Muganga the Victoria University Vice-Chancellor job.

“Why do Ugandan security agencies use methods last employed by Idi Amin’s goons to arrest people? Couldn’t they have invited Lawrance Muganga, the vice-chancellor of Victoria University, to police for questioning and then detain him? What is so hard with acting civilized?” Andrew Mwenda tweeted.

Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga also condemned such an arrest saying that a Vice-Chancellor is not someone who should be arrested like a chicken thief.

Dr Muganga’s family called out for the intervention of President Museveni and shortly the VC was released yesterday 3rd September 2021.

After his release, Dr Lawrence Muganga condemned the unprofessionalism of the security forces and said some of these should go back for training.

He was however full of praise for one of the CMI officers who protected him during the arrest.

“She is quite an amazing person trying to do her job. You are 10 people, see someone well dressed in her uniform and you choose to fight her! If there is, these people should be subjected to training.” The vice Chancellor said
