Kampala residents decry criteria used to give out myooga funds

Ever since the Myooga funds initiative was launched last year under the poverty eradication projects, numerous questions have been raised about it’s effectiveness.

The program which was assigned a Shs 260B budget kick-started with Shs 170B to help people in different SACCO’S to fight poverty.

Many people have however decried the process through which government officials base on to give out these funds as many have never gotten this money ever since they registered.

It was the same case yesterday 11th August 2021 as Kawempe South legislator Kazibwe Bashir Mbaziira took to his constituency to find out how this money has been given out.

He also wanted to find out the accountability from the officials giving out this money.

Mbaziira was however shocked to find that the NRM office in Wandegeya market was the one being used to give out this money.

The legislator questioned the officials why they are using a political party office to execute a national program that is meant to benefit everyone regardless of political affiliation.

“I was shocked to find the NRM office being used as the one to give out money meant to develop everyone. This is being partisan and it can lock different people out from benefiting.” Kazibwe said.

The officials in the office however said that they could not operate from the roadside when they have an empty office.

These went ahead to say that operating in an NRM office doesn’t stop them from serving all people irrespective of their political affiliations.

They however told Mbaziira that still this money did not come from either Magere or Kasangati but rather from President Museveni.

Shortly as Kazibwe exited the market the vendors exchanged some hot words with one section accusing the officials of embezzling the funds and only benefiting a few.

Kazibwe Bashir then moved to the carpenters at Kubiiri where the workers there were furious with the government for playing on them.

Some of these confessed that despite registering for the Myogoa projects, they did not know what the initiative is all about.

This has been the cry in different parts of the country ever since the Myooga money was discharged.

Majority of the people have questioned the criteria that is used to give out the money.

Some of these say that their colleagues who they registered with have gotten the money yet others still wait in vain.

This project was introduced by President Museveni last year and is a Runyankore term meaning a group of people doing the same thing.

It was launched by the President to improve household incomes but it’s yet to deliver any tangible results.
