We are tired of your lamentations- Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago to NRM

The Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has come out today 2nd August 2021 to address the ruling party, the NRM, of how people are tired of their lamentations in the ongoing fight against the COVID 19 pandemic.

It should be recalled that President Museveni, a few days ago eased on a number of measures put in place to fight against the pandemic in June.

However, it had been expected that the government would have vaccinated a substantial number of people in the 42 day lock down.

By the end of this lock down only slightly above 200,000 people had been fully vaccinated.

This is very shy of the target population of 22 million people the government has in it’s sight to be vaccinated.

Government has been lamenting lack of money to purchase these vaccines at one time calling upon people to donate towards this cause.

Lukwago however while addressing the government’s Director for Information and publicity Emmanuel Dombo on NBS TV’s Morning Breeze program said that the country needs vaccines and not unendless cries.

“NRM apologists have turned me into a punching bag. Let me use the same mantra, “We are tired of your lamentations, Mr. Dombo”, “We are tired of your lamentations, Mr. Museveni”. We want vaccines here.” Lukwago said.

Lukwago went ahead to say that the can never pick money from his Ugx 13 million salary to buy ambulances since government has money allocated to it for this task.

It’s however squandered by corrupt officials.

The lord mayor further told Dombo that the government should leave issues of trade and concentrate on the primary goal of securing vaccines and economic recovery.

According to Lukwago trade order is different from the fight against COVID 19. Trade is solely not responsible for COVID 19.

It’s rather a combination of things adding that creating a trade order entails many things and can’t be realised in one week.

Lukwago said that the government should have vaccinated teachers and got students back to school.

He was however adamant that at the rate, government is carrying out it’s business, it might take five years to vaccinate the learner’s.

Therefore as the ‘People’s government’ all they want is vaccination of those who are vulnerable health wise.

“At this rate, vaccination of learners will take more than five years. Our suggestion as the “People’s Government” is to vaccinate the elderly, those with underlying conditions, teachers and frontline workers.” Lukwago added.

Dombo on the other hand said that government strategies in restoring the country from the COVID 19 mess are the best although they are pegged back by lack of enough resources.
